This sander's 3.0 amp motor delivers 12,000 opm, a sanding speed that's ideal for creating smooth finishes on a variety of work pieces. Its random-orbit motion and 3/32-inch orbit prevent unsightly swirls while allowing for significant material removal. The DEWALT Controlled Finishing System (CFS) controls pad speed and minimizes gouging during start up, contributing to clean, consistent finished surfaces.

Customer Review: Good all purpose sander for the do it yourself crowd

This is my fourth or fifth sander and by far the best one I've owned so far. The others didn't last or vibrated like crazy or were hard to put and take sandpaper off of. I got it for one express project to sand down some high points and remove some sturborn stain left overs from my deck before refinishing especially the vertical railings. I know, many would have opted for a belt sander, but the power washing with a 4000 PSI unit did a good job and I just wanted to finish up. This sander is relatively quite, has a good balanced feel, and is easly controlled with one hand even going up and down. It has very little vibration so you can go an hour or so and not really feel you need to rest. Of course you do because the sandpaper wears out sooner. Nice design you just apply self-stick disks, align the holes in literally 5-6 seconds you have a new sandpaper disk on and ready to go. Takes another 5-6 seconds to remove the old disk. The dust catcher is good size and easy to remove and probably more important put back on. A simple push and twist design, superior to others that only push on, but come off shortly once you start to use it. The only fault if you can even call it one is it is pretty good size in both height and length. That makes it hard to do all the vertical railing all the way down to the deck flooring. or get in any tight spots. In fact, you can't with this big a sander. So I had to buy another "finish sander" to finish up. I'd review that too, but it was a house brand you can't get on YouTube, I got mine at the super store that starts with a M. Highly recommend any that come with a cute little accessory that fastens with one hex nut, and takes tiny and I mean tiny sanding disks, that are less than a inch wide and pointed, great for really tight spots you can't otherwise reach except by hand, and nobody likes hand sanding hundreds of railing on all four sides in a deck, so well worth the extra $20 bucks and it too is making short work of this project. Should finish tomorrow. If I feel like it. ;-)
