Customer Review: Why its good to have a backup filter

Quite often after using the dc500 on a particularly messy job (wet or dry) the filter gets clogged and impairs the performace of the unit.
Because this (and the stock) filter are both washable I keep a jar just larger that the filter will fit in and put a solution of Simple Green 13022 All Purpose Cleaner. 22 oz. and clean water in the jar - i may use it for the filter or for other tasks. I've marked a line on the clear bottle where the solution needs to be so that submersing the filter will raise the water to the top.
Now when the filter is clogged on the job - you don't have time to clean it, just put on a clean dry one out of the box and dunk the disgusting one into the jar, put the lid on and take it home to adjitate and wash out. These clean up nice if you keep them wet when dirty using a soapy solution like simple green and water, plus you can delay that job for 6 hours using an old jar.
At home you can use a shower sprayer with hot water or low pressure outside hose to remove whatever is blocking your filter and restore it to new - just let it dry out before packig the used one away - if you store it wet it will grow mold on the filter. Mix up another jar of soap/water and you're done - plus the time spent soaking makes getting caked on drywall dust or other nasties alot easier. Do not try this with the HEPA version of this filter-DEWALT DC5001H Replacement Hepa Filter its not meant to get wet.
From there just rinse out the tank and start clean with a new filter - problem solved in under 10 minutes
