Product DetailsManufacturer: DEWALT Model: DW983K-2 Accessories:
Description of DEWALT DW983K-2 14.4 Volt XRP 1/2-Inch Heavy Duty Adjustable Clutch Cordless Drill/Driver KitWhen it comes to power and versatility, the DeWalt DW983K-2 14.4-volt cordless drill/driver kit delivers. Powered by DeWalt's exclusive XR battery packs, the DW983K-2 is a solid performer in virtually any environment. All-metal gearing and a metal gear case ensure the tool's ruggedness from top to bottom, while a third, faster speed (up to 1,800 rpm--a full 29 percent faster than comparable drills) allows the DW983K-2 to tackle many high-speed jobs that two-speed drill/drivers can't handle nearly as effectively. The DW983K-2 is easy to operate, with clearly marked controls and a comfort-grip handle designed to reduce fatigue. Couple that with a tighter bit grip and higher torque (up to 400 in./lbs.), and it's easy to see why the DW983K-2 has quickly become such a popular choice with the pros. --Carl Thress
Tools and Hardware Reviews of DEWALT DW983K-2 14.4 Volt XRP 1/2-Inch Heavy Duty Adjustable Clutch Cordless Drill/Driver KitCustomer Review: another great product Summary: 5 Stars
When looking for my new cordless drill I was convinced that it had to be a Dewalt, P.Cable or Makita. The P.cable is still nice but needs a overhaul to compeate in the same price range as the onther two. The main reason I purchased the Dewalt over the Makita(a very nice drill) was the added speed, more torque, and a great chuck. Although the chuck does take some getting use to. It performs great on anything you can chuck. I have been using 1.5 inch hole saws for the past week and have had no slipping. The only thing is that you can not hold the chuck and spin it locked as the old ones do. This will damage the chuck. It is meant to be ratcheted closed by hand. So everyone that picks up the drill need to be informed of this or you will have a problem. The weight is a bit much but I wanted to go with the superior quality of the metal transmission. the weight was also a issue with the makita. The battery is even better. at moderate usage in 3/4 walnut it took over a week to use up the first charge. Much better than my previous 12 volt dewalt. At first I was skeptical of the transmissions performance. In high gear the drill comes to a lurching halt if turned on while not in use. I then realized that it is the new brake that is being felt. To incorporate the ratchet chuck a new brake was designed that holds the gears solid. I soon came to like this feature. As for the first gear issue, I believe that is a matter of opinion. I would like for it to work due to the hefty price I paid, but I also believe that it is not a necessity. The purpose for first gear is heavy loads requiring extreme torque(400 lbs). In those cases you don't use a low setting. Like driving screws. 400 lbs will brake the bit or just send it through the product. But, as I said this is a matter of opinion. Otherwise, I say that this is one of the finest products that Dewalt has come up with. I am sure you will be pleased, and if not then just return it befor the 30 days. Another great thing about this company.
