I was looking for a good set of bifocal sunglasses. These fit the bill nicely. Granted they are plastic and will scratch, but so far they seem pretty tough. I have worn them more or less daily for the past month while bicycle commuting, and no scratches yet.
Plusses: The "cheater" lens is low enough that it does not interfere with normal vision when I am biking. I would not choose these for reading a novel, but they work fine for reading my cycle computer, a map or a menu without changing glasses. Also it is not lost on me that they are safety glasses. Having been hit in the face more than once by big insects, and having had rocks thrown up at me by passing cars I now consider eye protection to be an essential part of biking equipment.
Minuses: when pumping up a steep hill with no wind on a hot day these can fog up. I do some wood working, and I know that fogging is a chronic problem with safety glasses. These are a bit better than most, but they do still fog. On a bike you just take them off if that happens (after all you are only going a few miles per hour up the hill). If using them as safety glasses in a hot humid environment (say brush hogging) this could be a problem.
