Tools and Hardware Reviews of Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW008KR Heavy-Duty 24-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Reciprocating SawCustomer Review: Power, durability and economy... Summary: 5 Stars
What a deal! I just received my Dewalt 24v recip. saw and I'm happy with my purchase. While I haven't had a lot of time to put it to work, I did get the opportunity to cut through a few 4xs and 2xs. This saw is fast and accurate. The cuts were flat and the speed/torque was, perhaps, a bit better than my low-end Dewalt corded recip saw. The heft and construction are superior to Dewalt's 18v line and just about any other cordless I've tried (Milwaukee & Ryobi). Be advised that Dewalt has just introduced a new battery and charger for the 24v line. The new kits weigh in at [the price] and come with two batteries instead of 1. For the price, however, this 24v reconditioned is a steal. I've also been assured by Dewalt that the new batteries will work with the old tools. They stated that the old charger will work with the old batteries, but I'm not sure if there's any penalty by not having a "fan-cooled" charger with the new batteries. These batteries offer 1.7 amp hours... The new 24v batteries offer longer run-time (~2.4 amp hours) and a longer recharge-life due to the built-in fan. Aside from the batteries, the Dewalt techs assured me that the two saws are comparable. They said the only tool that has been changed is the 24v hammer drill (the new model has three speeds instead of two). For me, the 24v reconditioned is a good deal since I can use the battery from my 24v circ saw (also a great tool). If I was only planning on buying one Dewalt tool, I'd consider the new kit with two batteries. Pros might consider the two-battery kit as well.
